How to Get Fit Without a Gym Membership

Published

on

Gym memberships are pricey and can hurt your finances if you are not aware of the payment plans. Some gyms can be as low as $10 a month, while others can cost over $100 a month. Some of us do not have that extra cash to spare, especially when the gyms have annual fees that follow these monthly plans. There are simple steps you can take to getting fit at home or in a nearby park.

Walk, Jog, or Sprint

Walking or running is an excellent form of cardio and can be a great addition to your fitness plan.  You can run almost anywhere, and if you aren’t comfortable running on a road, you can run a nearby school track when it’s not session. If you find you have a lot of pain jogging or running, try power walking, which can also be beneficial for you. These three forms of exercise will tone up your entire body, and you will most likely lose weight. If you are distance running, challenge yourself by sprinting up any hills you come across.

Your only investment with this exercise is a decent pair of running shoes. You can have a specialist at any shoe store help you find the right pair of shoes for you. They can assist you with any inserts you may need to minimize any aches or pains you may have. Don’t forget to mention your budget to the sales associate if you are on a tight budget.

Bike to Work

Not having time for the gym is no longer an excuse if you own a bike. If your commute is a half-hour away, that doesn’t mean you can’t bike. Your commute will probably take you an hour to go to work and an hour to come home. That may seem long, but how long did you plan on spending at the gym? You should be working out at the gym for at least an hour, so this is perfect for your fitness regime. Yes, it will be hard, and don’t forget to pack your work clothes and anything else you may need in a backpack. You will see results if you keep up with this plan.

A bike can cost anywhere from $100 to well over $1000. It all depends on your needs in a bike, and again, your budget. If you want to give it a try, buy a cheap bike from Walmart to get you started on your new trek. Just don’t forget your helmet!

YouTube

if group fitness interests you and you don’t have the money for a membership, YouTube is an excellent source for free workouts. There are several workouts posted by fitness professionals and YouTube users just looking to get fit. All you have to do is search your interests: Yoga workout, Pilates workout, ab work out, or anything you are looking to try out.
