10 Foods That Burn More Calories Than They Contain

By eating more healthy foods you will feel better, but you will also look better! Fewer calories each day will add up over time and result in pounds of fat lost. While there are a lot of different healthy snacks to choose from, there are actually some that burn more calories than they contain. This is because the body uses a lot of energy to digest them, so the calories that they contain really become negligible.

1. Cucumber

One medium cucumber only yields around 25 calories, but many of those are burned during digestion. It’s also packed full of protein, magnesium, and vitamin a, so it’s a nutrient-dense snack you can enjoy!

2. Spinach

One cup of spinach is only valued at 7 calories. It’s high in vitamin a, vitamin c, and vitamin b-6 as well! A lot of calories are burned digesting spinach, so enjoy it during your meals to fill you up without added calories.

3. Arugula

There are only 3 calories in a 1/2 cup of this, and it has virtually no fat. Arugula is also high in vitamin a, fiber, protein, and vitamin c.

4. Water Cress

This herb only has 16 calories per cup and is high in vitamin a and c. Most of those calories will be burned during digestion, so you can eat this without any guilt!

5. Broccoli

If you are a fan of broccoli, then eating more of it is something you should do! It’s only 31 calories per cup and it’s high in fiber, antioxidants, and several vitamins. 6. Raspberry

A 1/2 cup of these berries is only 32 calories and many of those are actually burned during digestion. Raspberries are great for weight loss and are packed full of over 80 nutrients, so they make for a great snack.

7. Chili Peppers

A half-cup of these hot peppers is only 30 calories, but your body has to use a lot of energy to digest them. An added benefit is that these are high in vitamin c, vitamin b-6, magnesium, and vitamin a.

8. Green Bean

Fresh green beans are 44 calories per cup, but most of those calories are burned when they are being digested. Green beans are high in protein, vitamin a, vitamin c, calcium, and a wide variety of other nutrients, so they are definitely good for you.

9. Beet

Less than 30 calories are in 1/2 cup of beets and they are high in fiber to help keep you full. Beets are also high in other nutrients, so they are great for your body and weight loss!

10. Lemons

One small lemon has 17 calories in it along with dietary fiber and potassium. Lemons add a lot of flavor to recipes and taste great in water without adding many calories.
