Although Valentine’s Day has come and gone it doesn’t mean that your heart health is not a focus. February is American Heart Month. Your heart health is related to your overall health including your oral health.

What you put in your body starts with your mouth. You can improve your health by adding these key ingredients.

You can prevent heart disease and oral health issues with these powerful foods.

1. Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Oil found in fish is healthy for your body. Salmon or sardines are great sources of omega-3 fats. They can support your overall heart by decreasing inflammation in your body. Inflammation in your gums can lead to tooth problems and gum disease. Eating fish can help keep your cholesterol in check as well.

2. Apples

Apples are loaded with nutrients including a source of quercetin.  Quercetin can prevent blood clots.

An apple a day may actually keep the doctor away but also the dentist. People who eat apples often usually prevent tooth decay and cavities. This is because apples are considered nature’s toothbrush.

3. Greens

Leafy vegetables that are green like spinach, kale, or romaine lettuce all contain high a lot of folate, which helps to maintain healthy levels of homocysteine. this can help prevent strokes, blood clots, and toothaches.

Eat more greens for more heart and oral health.

Monounsaturated fats

There is good fat and not so good fate. Monounsaturated fats, found in avocado, walnuts, almonds, or olive oil, pecans, are a wonderful source of healthy monounsaturated fats.

You can lower your cholesterol by including more healthy fats into your diet.

Magnesium

Magnesium can help improve your bodies’ natural digestive functions. Eating walnuts and spinach are great sources of magnesium. Every organ in your body needs magnesium to function properly. Eating more will help you feel better.
