A massive process of destruction and repair occurs continuously in the human body. A cell is destroyed to generate another new cell. This cell is capable of performing all the functions as that of the destroyed cell. During this procedure, errors usually occur.
These mistakes are corrected using additional systems. Sometimes, the mistake remains uncorrected, which in turn affect the health of the humans. If the error allows the newly developed cell to divide uncontrollably it could lead to cancer or tumor.
Colon acts as an intermediate between the small intestine and the anus. The bottom portion of the colon is often referred to as rectum, which is approximately 12 cm in length. Rectal cancer is considered to be one of the life threatening diseases that occur in the rectum.
What causes the disorder?
There are no specified causes of the disease. However, certain factors like family history of colon rectal cancer, the presence of polyps in the intestine, high fat intake and bowel disease increases the person’s risk of cancer.
Certain nonspecific symptoms of the colon cancer have been recorded. They are-
- Shortness of breath
- Abdominal pain
- Occurrence of blood in the stool
- Weight loss
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Change in bowel habits
- Narrow stools
If you experience any of the above mentioned symptoms, you need to consult a doctor. The expert will perform a suitable diagnosis of the disease. Colonoscopy is performed using an instrument called colon scope. Under this, the doctor will evaluate the entire lining of the colon including the rectum. In addition to this, they perform an endoscopic ultrasound to detect the local spread of the cancer.
This disease could be categorized into 4 stages and they are-
- The cancer remains confined to the lining of the rectum
- The tissue invades the layer of the rectal wall
- The tissue spreads to the nearby lymph nodes
- The disease uncontrollably spreads to other organs of the body like the lungs or liver.
How could cancer reoccur?
Once the cancer is treated, it is possible that it comes back to the original site. When this happens, it affects the lungs, liver and lymph nodes. In fact, the patients remain at risk of cancer up to 10 years after diagnosis and treatment. Hence, it is advisable to do physical examinations and blood tests every three months.
Natural ways of healing the disorder
You could prevent the disease by altering your lifestyle. You need to consume diets that consist of vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage. Studies have proved that the level of vitamin C in the cancer patients is quite low. Hence, you could eat fruits that contain citrus acid to prevent this disorder.
If possible, you could avoid consuming animal fat, protein and meat. Fried, cooked at high temperature or charcoal grilled meat could produce high level of cancer causing compounds.
It is advisable to drink plenty of plain water on a daily basis. These natural remedies are considered better over other methods because they have no side effects.
The patients need to quit smoking as well as drinking. The alcohol content present in drinks triggers the disease. Polyps grow at a faster rate in smokers as compared to non- smokers.
To avoid the risk of the disease, it is essential to exercise on daily routine. Those who maintain a healthy weight are less prone to the disease. Yoga is also quite helpful to remain healthy. You could take the guidance of a trainer or watch the videos on the internet.
