Summer is almost upon us. I can just about smell the BBQ’s and sun tan lotion. It’s the perfect time to prim and prime your body ready to show it off at the beach. What’s better is you can now do it all from the comfort of your own home! No more sweating it out in the gym or grimacing at the eyebrow threader in the store.
Nothing treats a beach ready body better than a good exfoliation scrub. Pre-beach exfoliation is key to achieving a flawless tan and smooth skin too. Invest in a good quality exfoliator such as Soap & Glory’s ‘The Scrub of Your Life’ which smells divine and comes in a handy squeezy tube. Or if you’re feeling all DIY simply mix 1 part olive oil to 2 parts sugar. The oil will keep skin moisturized whilst the sugar will slog away dead skin cells.
Once you’ve exfoliated work on removing any unsightly body hair! If you’re not brave enough for DIY wax then hair removal cream is a great, cheap alternative. Although the whiff of many of the older depilatory creams might put you off, Veet have addressed this with their ‘Veet Hair Removal Cream with Lotus Milk and Jasmine Fragrance’ which removes the shortest of hairs in just 3 pain (and smell)-free minutes.
If donning your short shorts with milk bottle legs doesn’t appeal to you, you’re not alone. Fake a light pre-holiday glow the safe way with a gradual tanner. Beginners should try the classic ‘Johnson’s Holiday Skin Body Lotion’ which works a treat for a streak-free natural look. More experienced tanners might prefer a more instant colour formula such as ‘St Moriz Self-Tanning Mousse’. Always remember to wear a hand mitt to avoid tell-tale orange palms!
Add the finishing touches to your pampered beach body with a DIY manicure and pedicure. Choose a bright summer colour like coral to boost your tan, ‘Rimmel 60 Seconds Nailpolish’ in ‘Coralicious’ needs only one coat and is fast drying. Or if you have a steady hand, neat French tips are always timeless.
Lashings of make-up are wasted in the Sun. Keep it simple with a water-proof mascara to avoid unpleasant smudges. Try Max Factor’s ‘Clump Defy Mascara’ in waterproof for long-lasting false looking lashes. A tinted moisturiser with a high-quality SPF will allow your skin to breathe more so than heavy foundation. ‘Olay Essentials Complete Care‘ combines a moisturising cream with an SPF; and is available in 3 shades.
If you feel the need to tone up a little before braving a bikini then a workout DVD could just be your new best friend. There are loads on the market to choose from whether you prefer a dance based Zumba workout or a bums, legs and tums style class; there’s something for everyone. The ‘10 Minute Solution’ series deserve a special mention for their huge range ideal for those pressed for time.
If the thought of lycra makes your skin crawl though there are a number of quick fix creams available to help you on your way. ‘Jergens Skin Firming Daily Toning Moisturizer’ will tighten up problem areas. And a bust enlargement cream could boost your confidence up top too.
