  2. Central pain syndrome: This condition comes as a result of damage to the central nervous system. There can be many reasons why this kind of damage occurs, including multiple sclerosis, strokes, and tumors.   5. Postherpetic neuralgia: This condition comes as a result of shingles, which is caused by the same virus as the one that causes chickenpox. The result is a very painful condition that occurs on one side of the body in line with the path of the affected nerve.
  6. Paresthesia: Most people have experienced paresthesia at some point in their lives. It is more commonly known as “pins and needles.” If excess pressure is placed on a particular nerve for a period of time, it can result in paresthesia. It is typically described as a tingling, crawling, or slight burning sensation.
