8 Home Remedies that will Cure your Headaches and Migraines




Headaches, including migraines, are a relatively common phenomenon, and the reasons for it can vary greatly. People who are systematically suffering from these ailments do not stop looking for a remedy against them. Take a look at these eight home remedies that will rid you of headaches and migraines.

#1. Lavender essential oil

Lavender not only smells lovely, but it is also an excellent home remedy for headaches and migraines. You can inhale it, or you can put it on the painful area. For inhalation, place two to four drops of it into a container along with three or four cups of boiling water. Unlike other essential oils, it can be applied directly to the skin without dilution.

#2. Peppermint essential oil

Peppermint is a soothing homemade remedy with proven effects in relieving tension migraines. This fresh-scented oil shrinks and expands the blood vessels, helping to control blood circulation. Put two to four drops of this essential oil in four cups of boiling water and inhale. It also helps to open the sinuses so that the blood is better oxidized.

#3. Adjust your diet

Changing your eating habits turns out to be a particularly useful means of reducing headaches. Some foods increase the chances of getting a headache or a migraine. These are dairy products, chocolate, peanut butter,  meats rich in nitrates such as bacon and frankfurters, foods containing monosodium glutamate or tyramine, and the sulfites contained in red wine and fermented or marinated foods.

#4. Flaxseed

Some types of headaches are provoked by inflammatory processes and can be relieved by Omega-3 fatty acids. Flax seeds are rich in Omega-3.

#5. Neck massage

Do yourself a favor and perform a massage on the back of your neck. It can ease your migraine. Brazilian scientists have shown that a massage to the central nerve at the base of the neck reduces the pain brought on by a migraine. Massages are one of the best cures for headaches, especially reflexology.

#6. Tansy

This herb started to be used to treat migraines in the 1980s when a British study proved its efficacy. It is even more effective in combination with white willow, a plant that has similar properties to aspirin. Its bark contains the active ingredient salicin, which is converted into salicylic acid once consumed. However, this remedy has risks, so do not prepare it for yourself but look for a phytotherapy specialist.

#7. Basil essential oil

This herbaceous plant with a strong smell is used as a spice in pizzas and plates of pasta. It smells appetizing and has a pleasant taste. For people who do not want to treat their headache with modern medication, the essential oil of basil is an excellent home remedy. Basil relaxes the muscles and relieves headaches.

#8. Buckwheat

The efficiency of buckwheat is due to the flavonoid known as rutin. Flavonoids are phytochemicals, plants with antioxidant properties that restore damaged cells. Taiwanese scientists have found their positive impact on inflammatory processes that are a common cause of headaches.
