4 Ways To Save Money On Your Fitness Needs
The American waistline has become the punchline for jokes around the world. There is more wiggle in many people’s stomach than there is in a bowl full of jello. Fitness is quickly becoming something that needs to be concentrated on. It is also a New Year’s eve resolution that is usually forgotten by morning.
Given the prices that many gyms charge for membership, it can be tough to justify breaking your budget to work out. Here are a few tips that should help you save money while you are keeping in shape in the coming years.
Save Money and Get in Shape at The Same Time
- If you have not worked out in a while, you may want to start simple. Walking and jogging are good entry-level exercises, and both can be done for free. As a bonus, the air in your neighborhood is usually fresher than the air at the gym.
- Unless you pay extra for a personal trainer, you are going to be working out alone or with a friend at the gym. So, why not buy a workout tape at a garage sale or rent one from the library, ask your friend over, and put the membership fees you are not paying into your savings account? This gives you the ability to change your workout routine at will and try different ones until you find one that suits you.
- Do not buy any sports equipment or accessories until you know that you are going to work out regularly. Purchasing an iPod for jogging then only jogging three times is a waste. Wait until you have worked out for 30 days, then buy. Even then, buy used whenever possible.
- If you have to join a gym or club, start with a few single day passes or wait for a 30-day trial offer. Not all clubs are created equal. If you do not feel comfortable, you may stop exercising instead of changing organizations. Only buy a long term contract after you have stuck to a workout routine for 90 days or more.
Getting in shape is one aspect of life that many of us need to work on, but there is no reason to break the bank to do it. Unfortunately, everywhere you look, a new fitness guru is selling you the latest training fad. Hopefully, these tips will help you keep a few extra dollars in your pocket.
