Liposuction: Your FAQ’s Answered

Foods that are proven to burn body fat

Are the results of liposuction permanent?

As fat cells are removed during liposuction and do not grow back, the results of liposuction are generally permanent. If a patient is to put weight on following the procedure, the body will retain its post-surgery form, however, it will simply be a larger version of the individual’s new body shape. However, liposuction will not stop the natural bodily changes associated with the aging process.

How much weight can I lose through liposuction?

Whilst patients should not expect to lose large amounts of weight, they should still expect to see dramatic results. As excess fat is removed from aesthetically important areas such as the stomach, liposuction will create a dramatic visual difference in a patient’s appearance without necessarily causing the patient to lose a significant amount of body weight.

Can fat cells grow back after liposuction?

No, liposuction removes rat cells permanently – once fat cells have been removed through liposuction, they cannot grow back. If a patient is to put on a small amount of weight following the procedure, their existing fat cells will simply get bigger. However, if the patient’s weight is increased by 10% or more, they should expect new fat cells to grow.

If I gain weight following liposuction, will fat come back in the treated areas?

If a patient is only to put on a small amount of weight following liposuction, fat should not return to the treated areas. However, in the instance that a patient is to put on a significant amount of weight (more than 10%) following undergoing liposuction, it is possible that fat will grow in the previously treated areas. Although fat cells will grow in these treated areas, the results of liposuction will still be apparent, however, the results will be less dramatic.

Does pregnancy alter the results of liposuction?

Although you will obviously put weight on during your pregnancy, being pregnant will not permanently affect the results of your liposuction. If a woman is to undergo liposuction before pregnancy, once she has lost her baby weight, her body will return to its post-liposuction form with no lasting visual effects of childbirth.

How long does it take to see results?

The majority of patients having undergone liposuction are said to see 905 of their final results within the first three months following the procedure. It is important to consider that for the first few weeks following surgery, the treated area will become swollen due to the invasive nature of the procedure. It is after this initial post-operative swelling has reduced that a patient will truly be able to see the results.
