Ways to Rid Your Body of Toxins

Trying to live a healthy life and striving to make your bodywork as well as possible is always a noble goal. Of course, it’s easier said than done. The convenience of junk food and the temptation of sugary drinks make it seem like the deck is stacked against being healthy. On the other hand, starting with little changes can lead to significant results. Here are some ways to deal with unhealthy toxins that prevent you from functioning at peak performance.

Dealing with a Big Night Out

Let’s face it: alcohol is a breeding ground for toxins. Few people, if any, dispute that it’s awful for your body, but social drinking, like most indulgences, can be alright in moderation. In addition to arranging for a ride home, if you know you’re heading out for a social event where drinks will be flowing, make sure you go out with a full stomach, work water into your rotation of cocktails, and consider using a hangover drink that night or the following morning.

While there’s no “healthy” alcohol, some drinks are less bad for you than others. Vodka with water is a better option than a dark beer or IPA. And alcohol that is distilled rather than just fermented is easier on your liver as its sugars are easier to break down.

Staying Hydrated

Let’s get back to the water for a moment. You’ve been told thousands of times how important it is to drink enough water, but it bears repeating. The old rule of thumb was to drink eight ounces of water eight times a day, for a total of 64 ounces. That’s roughly two liters and is a good start, but it doesn’t take your size into account. Newer thinking suggests a half-ounce per pound of your body weight. So, for example, if you weigh 180 pounds, shoot for 90 ounces of water a day.

Putting Better Things into Your Body

Of course, you know that some foods are better for you than others. But that isn’t limited to nutritional value. Some foods contain antioxidants, which can fight toxins naturally. These include berries, beans, kale, spinach, beets, artichokes, and even dark chocolate!

Fresh air, sunlight, and exercise also help get the body kickstarted towards maximum efficiency. Put in the effort to take in some of these healthier foods and drinks and take on some of these healthier hobbies. You may be surprised at how much changes quickly.
