10 Steps to Photogenic

If you are most people, you hate having your photo taken. Either the flash washes you out, you get a double chin, you look oily, or your smile looks forced. Whatever the case, you have become a professional camera-dodger. When that little Nikon comes out of your friend’s purse, you dive to the ground to avoid being photographed.

That doesn’t have to be the case! There are some straightforward things you can do to make sure that you look like a movie star in photos.

Banish the dreaded double chin. To make your neck look positively svelte, stick your neck out an inch or two further than usual. It may feel silly, but doing this will define your chin and smooth your neck. You should also make sure the camera is at eye level or higher.

Stop the shine. Your face is naturally oily, and your skin needs that oil to keep hydrated. However, this can make you look slick and gross in photos, especially since the flash catches anything shiny. Before being photographed, use a blotter pad, which will remove any excess oil while leaving your makeup intact.

Get a better smile. If you aren’t smiling naturally, that smile can look like a grimace. To make sure your grin is great, laugh! It’ll look much more natural (read: pretty). Instead of a robotic showing of teeth, your smile will light up the room and make you look beautiful.

Fix your teeth. You should also visit your dentist in San Antonio to make sure your teeth are straight and white. This will give you the confidence to laugh and smile all the time, so you won’t be afraid to do so when being photographed.

Widen your eyes. Red-eye happens to the best of us, and sometimes can be difficult to edit out later. To lessen your chances of demon eyes, look at a source of light. This will shrink your pupils, making your eyes look more full. Believe it or not, this protects you against a red-eye, and your eyes will sparkle.

Get better eyelashes. Let’s face it: women are obsessed with their eyelashes. From mascara to serums to falsies, women strive for out-of-this-world eyelashes. Get those without piling on uncomfortable products: look up! If you raise your eyes slightly, looking above the camera instead of into it, you will get a better angle, and your lashes will look longer and fuller.

Brighten your skin tone. Flash can do wonders, but it can also destroy your skin tone. If you tend to look washed out, use the right kind of makeup to search healthier. Dusting bronzer along your temples, your nose, and under your cheekbones will add soft angles. Use blush to get a healthy glow. Use concealer to hide any blemishes. Your skin will have a healthy glow in pictures now.

Look skinnier! Without going to the gym, you can slim yourself down in photographs. Stand at a 45-degree angle, which will add curves and hide fat. Cross one leg in front of the other. This will make your legs look longer and leaner. You will look skinny, and you will love your pictures.

Do not make the duck face. I repeat: Do not do it! Part of the reason this trend started was that it made girls’ cheekbones stand out, and their lips look more prominent. You can achieve this same effect with the right makeup, rather than looking ridiculous. Dust bronzer under your cheekbones first. Then, slick on lip gloss, concentrating it in the center of your lips. This will give you the illusion of a fuller mouth.

Practice! Seriously, as silly as you may feel, stand in front of a mirror for a few minutes a day and practice your smile and pose. After a while, it will become second nature to you to stand at that 45-degree angle and smile naturally. You won’t have to analyze your setting; you pose and smile.

Use these tips to take perfect photos every time. You will come to love your pictures, instead of un-tagging yourself from every image on Facebook.
