Incentives To Get Active

Published

on

Do you feel like you never leave home? Do you spend most of your day sitting on the couch, watching television, or doing otherwise useless things and you just wish you could find the motivation to get out and get active? If so, you are in luck. This article will expound on some great incentives to get you moving, some of which you might find extremely useful, and others that you may not like at all. Just remember, when it comes to living a healthy and active life, there are no “right” answers. Everyone is different, and what works for someone else may not be right for you. So, be patient and test the waters a little bit until you can find that one thing that really motivates you.

A New Gift

Some people find that working toward a goal is a lot easier if there is a prize associated with that goal. For example, tell yourself that if you can manage to do thirty minutes of exercise every day for five days in a row and then continue this for three weeks or so, you will reward yourself with something you have been wanting for a while. Say your house needs new curtains, but you don’t really feel like this is an absolute “top of the list” priority right now.

You can make this little “extra” a prize for doing well and getting more active. New curtains are a great incentive because they are not something extremely expensive that would almost make you afraid to reach your goals but they are also not something as silly as a cheap pair of flip-flops from the dollar store. Picking a reward that is both reasonable and incentivizing is a great way to get started on your path to a better lifestyle.

A New You

While some may be inspired by material and tangible objects, others are a lot more motivated to get going by the mental prospect of the kind of person they could become if they decided to get healthy. If you know that you really want to be a certain size or weight or what have you, imagine that new you and how much happier you could be if you would actually get out and make it happen.

It doesn’t take a whole lot to get started. In fact, all you really need to do is write down a list of your goals, then come up with a realistic way to make them happen and a time frame in which you want to get them done. After that, all that’s left is to actually go get some exercise. When it seems like you are just too worn down and you feel like you want to quit, just imagine that new you in your mind and push a little harder. Nothing is impossible; you just have to give it all you’ve got.

A New Start

For some people, getting fit is much more than just a new set of curtains or a prettier body; it is a new chance a life, a new start. For these people, getting active may be their last hope. If you are extremely overweight or suffering certain medical complications due to a sedentary lifestyle, consider this chance to get active as a new lease on life. You can basically start all over. Keeping a positive attitude throughout this process is key, though, so remember that you can do it and that in the end, it will all be worth it.
