Methods For Safely Whitening Teeth

Published

on

There are many ways to whiten your teeth, including whitening toothpaste and mouthwashes, tray-based whitening systems and whitening strips, and professional whitening services from a dentist. But if you don’t want to constantly have to use abrasive, harsh bleaching systems that can eventually take their toll on your tooth enamel, leading to sensitivity and pain, you’re in luck because there are several ways to maintain a white smile naturally.

Create a Baking Soda and Peroxide Treatment

You can combine two great whitening ingredients – baking soda and peroxide – in the comfort of your own home to create a great all-natural tooth whitening treatment. Take about two teaspoons of baking soda and combine it with equal parts of hydrogen peroxide that you can purchase at any pharmacy or grocery store.

If you mix these two ingredients together, it will form a paste that you can use to brush your teeth. You can even leave it on your teeth for a few minutes so that it can really get to work breaking down stains. When using these two ingredients as a paste, you don’t necessarily have to brush with regular toothpaste, but if you wish, you can brush after you spit out the solution and rinse your mouth out with water.

You can even use a combination of hydrogen peroxide and water as a daily mouth rinse to kill bacteria and germs and naturally whiten your teeth. If you find that your gums become sensitive to the hydrogen peroxide, just use less peroxide and more water in the rinse or use the rinse only a few days out of the week as opposed to every day.

This solution works because baking soda is completely safe for use on teeth, kills the bacteria that causes plaque, and reduces acids in your mouth that lead to decay and stains. Peroxide also has anti-bacterial effects that help keep your mouth clean while bleaching your teeth into a whiter shade naturally.

Foods That Can Whiten Your Teeth

While most of the foods that we eat and drink, especially our daily doses of coffee and tea, actually cause our teeth to become stained, there are foods out there that can help your teeth stay whiter and healthier. Choose crunchy foods that you can really sink your teeth into, like carrots, celery, and apples.

These foods are not only healthy and packed with nutrients for your entire system, but they are also abrasive enough to act as natural toothbrushes every time you bite into them. So instead of cutting that apple into slices, bite right in for a natural whitening experience.

Lemons

Some people claim you can use lemon juice or vinegar to whiten your teeth because the acids from these foods will break down stains, but it’s not really a good idea because the acid will eat away at the enamel of your teeth, causing more harm than good. So while it’s fine to bite into a sour lemon every now and then, just don’t use it to regularly whiten your teeth.
