How to Stop Braces From Hurting

Sure, braces can be a little annoying, but you do not need narcotic drugs to deal with the discomfort. Sometimes a regular dose of Ibuprofen or Tylenol will help. However, if your mouth is bleeding see your orthodontist.

After awhile your pain should subside. Your lips and gums could develop roughness if you have never had braces. You could make a salt-water solution to help ease irritation.

Rinse your mouth with warm salt water as many times throughout the day and as often as possible. If this doesn’t work, rinse your mouth with plain cold water, and take Tylenol or Advil as directed.

Your teeth and gums will be very sensitive. You can chew on foods that are crunchy but this could cause more irritation. Instead chew soft foods, mashed potatoes, ice cream, and jello are all good solutions.

Even make homemade soups, yogurts, and other soft food to help ease the pain. You could also eat something very cold like ice cream or suck on an ice cube. It will numb your mouth and temporarily relieve the pain, but don’t try to chew on them.

Drinking hot beverages can help ease the pain as well. You could drink hot soups, such as broths or tomato soup. Heat in the body could help promote blood flow and will ease the swelling.

You can also visit your orthodontist. They can help ease the pain by tightening or loosening the braces. Braces can be a hassle but you will feel good when you have clean straight teeth. Your dentist and doctor are there to help you. Ask them anything you want and let them help you make a smart choice.
