Easing the funeral planning process

Losing a loved one can be one of the most difficult and trying experiences in your life. When they are gone, it doesn’t matter if it was expected or not—it is never easy to say goodbye. For many, the process of planning a funeral in the wake of your loved one’s passing can be very overwhelming. You are trying to deal with the emotional impacts of your loss, yet you want to be sure that the funeral truly pays tribute to the individual. There are ways to make the process a little easier, which will allow you to make the arrangements without too much added stress such as using an obituary template and delegating tasks amongst multiple relatives and close friends.

Delegating Tasks

Oftentimes the responsibilities of planning the funeral seem to fall to one person, and this can cause a lot of emotional stress. Instead of having all of the arrangements fall on one person, split up the tasks between multiple people. Some of the ways you can do this include assigning the following tasks:

–          Schedule the funeral and wake with the funeral home

–          Contact loved ones and prepare the obituary

–          Arrange the program, choose any religious verses or songs for the service, and arrange the speakers

–          Work with the cemetery ensuring that you have the plot for your loved one

–          Choose the casket and the flowers for the service

By splitting up these responsibilities, no one person will suffer the trauma of having to handle all the details on their own. Relying on family and friends at this painful time is a key to getting through it.

Obituaries

When it comes to a funeral, you may be unsure of how to reach out to all friends and acquaintances of your departed loved one. This is why most people place the obituary in the paper to alert anyone who may want to pay their respects of the arrangements for the funeral and wake. Knowing what to say in an obituary can be overwhelming—you are missing your loved one and there are so many things you want to say. Utilizing an obituary template could make the process easier as you will just need to cater the information to your loved one.

Use the Funeral Home

If the funeral home you will be using offers to handle some of the arrangements, let them. They are experienced with helping people at this difficult time and they will be sure to be sensitive to what you are looking for.

Losing a loved one is hard enough without making the funeral planning process difficult. When you have lost a loved one, lean on your friends and family and support them as well—working together will ease the emotional strain.
