How To Safely And Effectively Remove Bed Bugs From Your Home

Let’s face it – infestations happen, and bed bugs can be a common although very tricky one to have to deal with. Washing and cleaning your family’s bedsheets and mattresses is not going to do the trick. Thankfully there are a couple of different ways to rid your home of these annoying pests. You will want to compare each option to determine which is the safest and most effective bed bug treatment for both your home and family.

If you choose to head down the pesticide route, there are a few things you should know. These pesticides are filled with chemicals. These chemicals are quite effective in the removal of bed bugs, but it comes with a major downside that could have an effect on the health and well be of you, your family, and even your pets. Chemicals can potentially leave a toxic, harmful residue that can cause asthma, allergies, cancer, and other health-related issues. On top of that, it takes more than one chemical treatment to get the job done fully, basically piling up the health risks that come along with it.

The other path you can take when it comes to killing bed bugs is bed bug heat treatment. Bed bugs and their eggs cannot withstand extreme heats, and because of this, blasting hot air through specific rooms or your entire home has proven to be an effective environmentally friendly and chemical-free way to get rid of the bed bugs. There are a few different methods in which the heat is delivered though.

The three main methods of heat delivery are Propane Blower Systems, Electrical High-Temperature Heating Systems, and Glycol Heating. The safest, most effective heat treatment method is Glycol Heating due to the fact that all it really does is deliver the heat to your home by pushing clean, dry, hot air through specific rooms, or your entire home. There are no risks of fire or illness associated with Glycol Heating, which makes it one of the most ideal choices in bed bug removal. In most cases, the air is heated up in a trailer of some sort outside of your home.

Propane Blower Systems are scarce due to the danger associated with them. You can imagine by the name the risks involved. Many areas have outright forbidden the treatment, while some require a fire marshal to be present; that’s how high the risk of fire is. It’s also terribly inefficient due to the fact that it has to take the outside air, heat it, and then blast it through the home. There are also some health concerns that come along with Propane Blower Systems because it involves combustible gasses and hazardous fumes including Co2 which could linger after the treatment.

Electrical High-Temperature Systems, on the other hand, have a high surface temperature that can often bring along fire risks. Strong hot air turbulences are required to be blasted through the house in order for it to be effective. Let’s say, for example, you’ve chosen this method and forgot to take an old grocery list off the side of the refrigerator. The hot air blowing through the home could catch the paper and set it on fire, and in turn, your home could go up in flames. Additionally, unless a generator is provided, you’ll also be paying for the electrical costs that come along with it, and with a treatment time of upwards of 5 days, the cost for additional housing can be undesirable.

Out of all the methods available, Glycol Heating is your best option when it comes to the removal of bed bugs, other molds, and allergens, or even other insects.
