Heal Your Addiction With Alcohol RehabilitationAlcoholism

Alcoholism is a chronic dependence on alcohol that can lead to severe health problems, alienation of family and friends, job loss, and many times, death. It is a serious illness in where the physical as well as emotional aspects must be equally treated in order for an alcoholic to recover and move forward in a life of sobriety, and while there are a variety of detoxification and treatment programs that treat the physical aspects, often times the emotional problems are overlooked. If you are someone that is struggling with alcohol addiction, there are quality alcohol rehabilitation centers that can assist you by treating the entire scope of the disease, allowing you to regain your health and self-esteem so you can live a happy and productive life.

Hitting Bottom

The first step towards recovery is admitting that you have a problem that is out of your control. Many alcoholics have a final incident, known as “hitting bottom,” where their alcohol abuse caused them to behave in a manner that may have put them in a dangerous situation, or where they suffered a health scare like alcohol poisoning. Whatever the reason for hitting bottom may be, this is often the moment when the alcoholic decides that enough is enough, and they willingly check themselves into treatment. Alternatively, an alcoholic may be given the option of treatment in lieu of a jail sentence or a hefty fine, and this type of treatment is considered “court ordered.” The important thing is that the alcoholic is finally in a place where they can be treated, regardless of how they got there.

The Treatment Process

The treatment process will vary for each patient depending on the extent of their addiction, and many treatment centers individualize specific recovery programs based on the patient’s emotional and physical needs. For alcoholics, the first step is usually detox, where the patient is monitored by a trained medical professional while their body detoxes from alcohol.

Side effects of detox include hallucinations, severe tremors, nightmares, and body cramps, which is why it is important to have trained medical staff monitoring the process. Once the patient is safely detoxed, they will start the process of emotional healing where they will work with professional counselors and participate in group therapy sessions in order to get to the bottom of the issue and understand why alcohol has such a hold on them. Many alcoholics are masking issues like childhood trauma or abuse, so therapy sessions can be quite intense. Painful emotions will come up, but by looking at them head on and dealing with them in the present moment, the alcoholic can finally move past the issues and have a great chance at a full recovery.

Take The First Step In Healing

By taking the first step in admitting that your alcohol abuse is out of your control, you are ready to take the next step by enrolling in a treatment program that will treat both the physical and mental aspects of your addiction. By taking your treatment seriously and living life one day at a time, you have an amazing chance at a clean, sober, and happy future.
