Reverse gum disease and whiten your teeth with this DIY homemade toothpaste

Dental hygiene is an important part of total body health. A healthy mouth works to prevent infections from entering the body. Most people use store bought toothpaste and don’t think twice about it.

Mostly mainstream brands of toothpastes contain harmful or even toxic ingredients such as:

Artificial colorings linked to ADHD and hyperactivity in children. Toothpaste does not need to be blue!

Triclosan is a well-known endocrine disruptor that alters hormone regulation.

Fluoride, which can be toxic if swallowed and doesn’t even work in toothpaste

Sodium lauryl sulfate, used as a foaming agent, is a possible carcinogen and which causes canker sores for many people.

Glycerin, which isn’t toxic, but has no place in the mouth as it’s a soap that strips your body’s natural oral mucosa and leaves a film.

Making your own toothpaste is easier than you think and you probably already have most of the ingredients in your kitchen. This homemade toothpaste recipe is 100% natural, perfectly edible, and full of the minerals your teeth need to re-build enamel and maintain healthy teeth and gums.

How its Ingredients Work?

Coconut oil

Extra-virgin coconut oil is anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antibacterial, and antimicrobial. A study conducted in 2012 demonstrated that coconut oil destroys the bacteria that can cause tooth decay. Another Study suggests that coconut oil, when used for oil pulling, is effective at reducing plaque formation.

Peppermint

Researchers have found that the peppermint is extremely effective at killing anaerobic bacteria, the type of bacteria that thrive in a low oxygen environment such as the mouth. This bacteria causes gum disease. Peppermint essential oil therefore helps prevent gum disease.

Baking soda

Our teeth and mouths are constantly under attack by acids thanks to the foods we eat. Neutralizing these acids with vegetables and water is essential to maintaining proper pH in the mouth to encourage the right bacteria as well as protect enamel from decay. Baking soda has a pH of 9 to 11 (alkaline), so it helps to neutralize acids while not being too abrasive to teeth.

Turmeric

Turmeric helps to keep dental problems, such as toothaches and gingivitis, at bay due to its anti-plaque, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. It also helps whiten your teeth.
