Accessorizing with Cheer Gear

Published

on

Accessories are an essential piece of cheer gear necessary to a complete cheerleading outfit.

  • Accessories dress up an outfit to make it more exciting, engaging, and style-oriented.
  • Unique accessories help us stand out as individuals, which can sometimes be critical when you’re part of a uniform team.
  • Accessories also help squads create unity and a professional appearance when matching items are added to the team’s uniform.

Any way you look at it, no outfit or uniform is complete without accessories.

Accessory cheer gear items include pieces of apparel that may or may not be part of your squad’s issued uniform. Some examples include:

  • hair bows
  • shorts
  • socks
  • hats
  • scarves
  • makeup

Ideas for Accessorizing a Cheer Uniform

Cheer shorts are a great way to keep cool in style and comfort during practice, but they can be worn for cheering at certain events too. Try purchasing comfortable Soffe shorts in your school colors for training, and you’ll find yourself wearing them for PE class, yoga sessions, and around the house too.

Cheer makeup is different from daily use makeup because it’s designed to stand out from a distance, much like costume makeup. You can keep yourself and your squad from looking too theatrical by choosing cheer makeup such as glitter and face stickers in your school’s colors

Matching hair bows look great when the team’s in the formation, and they also help limit the random clips, barrettes, and scrunchies that girls use to hold their hair back. Cheer bows have attached elastic hair bands that keep hair off the face and stay in place during all your movements and stunts.

Try using cheer hats as an alternative to bows for keeping hair secured and off the face. Baseball caps keep the sun out of your eyes during daytime outdoor events and can be worn indoors too. Beanies help keep squad members warm on cold football nights and during early spring events outdoors and can be worn to and from school throughout the winter.

Fashion scarves make a convenient cheer accessory because they can be used in so many different ways. A lightweight fashion scarf can be worn traditionally around the neck or as a hairband, armband, leg band, or belt. Scarves can be easily integrated into any cheer routine or dance as a prop and look great when waved information.

While not generally issued as part of a uniform, socks are an essential part of every cheer outfit and can be used as a great fashion accessory. Look for knee-high or thigh-high socks in your school colors for a real attention-getter at events. White ankle socks can be worn discreetly or dressed up with glitter, puffy paint, buttons, rhinestones, beads, and more.
