Getting a great complexion needn’t break your budget. You don’t need cosmetic surgery to get great skin. We’re going to look at five natural and healthy ways to improve your complexion and get great skin — without resorting to Botox or other expensive methods.
- Drink lots of water
Many people wonder how drinking water can help improve your complexion and the quality of your skin. The truth is, water washes out the toxins from your body that could make your skin deteriorate. Staying hydrated is so important. It’s good for you for loads of different reasons — not just your skin — but it’s a great way to keep you looking fresh and invigorated, too.
As with most things, moderation is the key. Too much water is actually bad for you as well, but so is too little. Try and find the sweet spot by drinking around 8 to 10 glasses a day. Don’t go crazy, but make sure you’re rarely thirsty and always hydrated.
- Don’t over-do facials
While there’s a time and place for facials, don’t over-do it. Frequent beauty treatments can actually tire your skin and might achieve the opposite of what you’re trying to improve. Too many facials can make you look old. Don’t upset the natural balance of your skin by applying too many treatments. Try and only have a facial every couple of months.
- Get plenty of sleep
This is one of the easiest ways to keep looking great, and it helps for so many other aspects of your health as well. These days, people are cutting back on sleep —that’s not recommended. You body needs sleep to stay energised and in shape. Not getting enough could lead to under-eye shadows and an ageing of the skin. Make sure you get at least 7 hours sleep a night — it could make a big difference to your skin tone and complexion.
- Quit smoking
You’re probably already aware of how bad smoking is for your health, but quitting an addictive habit can be difficult. It’s not just bad for your health, either — it’s expensive. That’s money that could be better spent elsewhere. However, you might not be aware of how bad smoking is for your appearance, too. It ages your skin and stains your teeth. Quitting smoking could make a huge difference to how you look and feel about yourself.
Quitting smoking can be difficult, but that’s why more and more people are choosing to buy electronic cigarettes. They still provide your body with a fix of nicotine, but without some of the other harmful chemicals contained in tobacco. They’re cheaper and they won’t ruin your skin (or make you stink).
- Moisturise before bedtime
Choosing the right moisturiser is important. Some people pick products that are popular without checking that they are right for their own skin. Everyone has different skin, and that’s why some creams are only recommended for people with specific types of skin.
It’s also important that you apply the cream just before bedtime. This is the optimum time for moisturising and should have the greatest positive effect on your skin.
