New research discovered that that LAP banding is one of the safest, if not the safest way to lose weight. Best of all, its effect could last for a long time.
The study was published on Annals of Surgery, wherein several lap band patients were able to maintain an average of 26 kilograms for 10 or more years after their first operation. For the study, Professor Paul O’Brien and associates investigated the results of more than 3000 patients after their operation between 1994 and 2011. Around 78 of the participants were women and all have an average age of 47 at the time of the study.
About 54 patients have the same results, and all of them started their treatment at least 15 years ago.
Professor Brien noted that those who have a weight problem can seek a treatment that can last almost a lifetime.
For those, who were obese and type 2 diabetic, lap banding can help them regulate their blood sugar after they lose weight. They do not even need to take medication regularly to control their blood sugar level.
All the patients who were part of the study were all into a healthy lifestyle, and know-how to commit with their scheduled visits to doctors.
There were no death cases during the study, and all the participants did not undergo any more surgery after their first operation.
The study proves that Lap-Band surgery was safer than it used to be six years ago. Significantly, patients who undergo operation lose more weight compared to their peers who did not undergo an operation.
The same study also compared gastric banding with a more dangerous weight loss surgery – gastric bypass considered as high risk by most experts.
