Tips For New Years Resolution Success

As we come to the tail end of December 2012 it’s time to once again consider what your New Years Resolution will be. One of the most popular resolutions is to get in better shape whether it be; losing weight, gaining muscle, or just toning up. It’s always easy to start off strong and work-out all through the month of January but by half-way, through February most people have dropped off the band-wagon. So, how can you ensure that this year you come through on your New Years’ goals? Follow our simple tips for motivating yourself in the new year and you’ll be well on your way.
Change Your Mindset
One of the most common problems among people starting to work out is they see their fitness push as a temporary thing, after which they will be able to revert back to their old habits. One of the best things you can do to improve your chance of success is to change your mindset about getting in shape. Instead of looking at eating right and working out as a “diet” started to refer to it as a “lifestyle change”. What’s the difference? Due to society’s use of the word “diet”, it is seen as a temporary thing, something that you can stop once you achieve your goals. A lifestyle change implies that you are making a long-term commitment to health and fitness. People who commit to long term change are more likely to stay fit and healthy than those who choose to go on temporary diets.
Hire A Personal Trainer
It can be extremely difficult to stay motivated and working week after week. Even professional athletes sometimes struggle to find the motivation to get to the gym. An excellent way to make working out more fun is to hire a personal trainer. While a personal trainer won’t make working out easier they will keep your workouts exciting and effective as well as helping you with your diet. Personal trainers will also provide you with motivation and support to help you stay focused on your goals. Personal trainers tend to be expensive, if that’s a problem you can always sign up for a group session or share the cost with a friend.
Switch It Up
If you start getting bored of a specific work-out routine don’t be afraid to switch things up. Do you normally run the streets around your neighborhood? Why not try out trail running! Tired of walking on the treadmill? Why not go swim some laps! If you’re not having fun working out you’re probably not going to keep doing it, keep things fresh!
