10 Home Remedies that can Cure Neck Pain

With its complex structure and high mobility, the human neck needs to be in good shape to ensure the smooth functioning and movement of the body. When you have a pain in your neck, every gesture with the head becomes painful, so check out these 10 home remedies for relieving neck pain.

The reasons for this type of pain are numerous. The most common among them is the wrong position of the body, usually caused by sitting at a desk in front of the computer screen, or even during sleep. It may also occur when practicing a sport after twisting your head.

Other reasons include a lack of nutrients, nerve compression, fibromyalgia, etc. The problem is usually not severe and can be easily influenced by natural methods. This avoids the risk of spreading shoulder pain, headaches, neck conception, and difficulty swallowing.

#1. Ice pack

Ice is the most straightforward remedy for neck pain. Cold temperatures reduce inflammation and relieve pain. You can apply a bag of frozen peas and place it over the sore place.

If you use ice cubes, put them in a plastic bag, wrap them with a towel and place it on the afflicted area for up to 15 minutes. Repeat the procedure three times a day. Never put ice directly on the skin!

#2. Hydrotherapy

The shower can effectively relieve the pain. It’s pain-relieving qualities coincide with the power of the jet and the temperature of the water. The warm shower speeds up the circulation and relaxes the muscles.

Point the shower to the painful area for about 3-4 minutes. Then use both warm and cold water within 30-60 seconds. Repeat the method as many times as necessary. Make sure your neck is in a good position during the therapy.

#3. Bath salts

Look for bath salts that reduce stress and tension. Magnesium sulfate acts as a muscle relaxant, reducing swelling and pain.

In a warm tub, add 250 ml of suitable salts and relax for 15-20 minutes. Repeat this every day until the pain disappears entirely. If you suffer from cardiovascular problems, hypertension, or diabetes, consult a doctor before using bath salts.

#4. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent that quickly acts on neck pain.

Soak a paper napkin with ACV and put it on your neck. Leave it there for two hours. Repeat the procedure every day until the pain disappears. You can also add 2 cups of apple cider vinegar to the warm water in your tub and relax in the bath.

#5. Exercise

Exercise strengthens the muscles of the neck and the upper back while reducing tension. First, heat these areas using a warm, water-soaked towel.

Make slow circular movements with the head clockwise and then back. This may be a little uncomfortable, but it helps to relax the muscles. Then move the head back and forth, left and right. Each exercise is done five times, three times a day. If it really hurts when doing this, consult a doctor.

#6. Lavender essential oil

Use it for a relaxing neck massage. Also, lavender oil improves sleep.

First, take a warm shower to soothe the aching muscles of the neck. Then massage the back of the neck and shoulders. Make gentle circular movements for 10 minutes. You can mix lavender oil with olive oil.

#7. Lemon Balm

If the pain in the neck is due to calcium and potassium deficiency, this herb can help a lot. It keeps bones and joints in excellent condition.

Boil 1 tsp dry lemon balm with 1 cup of water. Drink twice daily.

#8. Turmeric

This great spice has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. It also improves blood circulation and supports the general health of the body.

Stir 1 tsp turmeric in a glass of organic almond milk and boil on low heat for about five minutes. Add honey and let the milk cool down. Drink twice daily.

#9. Ginger

Ginger has natural anti-inflammatory properties and improves blood circulation, which reduces the pain in the neck.

Cut ginger into circles and boil in 2 cups of water for 10 minutes. Add 1 Tsp organic honey. Drink three times a day.

You can also use half tsp of ginger powder dissolved in a glass of water. Drink 3 times a day for one week.

It is also good to make a compress: Spread 2 tsp of ginger on a clean cloth. Dip the fabric in hot water for 30 seconds. Wait for it to cool down and put it on the back for 15-20 minutes. Repeat the procedure several times a day.

#10. Cayenne pepper

Cayenne pepper comprises of a substance called capsaicin, which relieves pain and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Add 2 tsp of cayenne pepper to lightly warmed olive oil. Stir and massage the neck going towards the shoulders. Repeat this procedure twice daily.

Other valuable tips:

  • Try to sleep without a pillow to allow the neck muscles to rest at night.
  • When you are sitting, keep the head and spine upright.
  • Frequently swim to strengthen the muscles of the neck and back.
  • Use a suitable chair that does not hurt your back at work.
  • Quit of the habit of pressing the phone against your ear with your shoulder.
  • Sleep on a harder mattress so your spine will not become distorted.
