Who is a phlebotomist?

Phlebotomy is a branch of science that deals with puncturing the vein and drawing the blood for the diagnosis purpose. Blood sample testing always occupies a major role in any disease diagnosis. Despite many technologies, available blood sample testing gets us diagnosis with an acoustic clarity! The person who is trained to skillfully draw the blood out from the vein is known as a phlebotomist.

It is very common that a doctor includes blood sample testing in his process of diagnosing. In fact, blood sample testing aids a lot in the diagnosis of the disease since blood runs throughout the body any fluctuation can be easily captured.

Phlebotomist work starts with paperwork and ends in giving the blood diagnosis report.

The first and foremost step of a phlebotomy procedure starts with identifying the right patient checking his/her diagnosis requirements and doing the necessary paperwork. This seems to be easy, but it is a very vital step that a phlebotomist has to consider.

It is important that you draw the blood from the patient and label it accordingly; most errors occur at this point a little mistake at the time of labeling can make everything chaotic.
With the advancement of technology, there is nothing to worry about testing the blood sample.
The only thing that must be considered is a phlebotomist must produce appropriate paperwork, identifying the patient, and labeling the blood sample accordingly is the first and foremost job of the phlebotomist.

The next duty of a phlebotomist includes assessing the patient. Phlebotomists must take care that the patients are free of all doubts and fears and then proceed for collecting the sample. Generally collecting a sample from a nervous and tensed patient, make them experience the pain more than the necessary. So it is necessary to calm down the patient before proceeding further, this ensures a better all-round experience!

A trained phlebotomist not just collect blood, he/she ensures that the entire process is happening in a systematic way. There is a vivid number of blood tests available for diagnosis, and each blood test as its own specification it is the responsibility of the phlebotomist to check that the sample collection is done accordingly to the situation and doctor’s demand.

Phlebotomist then labels it accordingly and then sends it to the labs for investigation purpose and make out the investigation report.

Phlebotomists should work conjointly with the other members of the hospital administration. Diagnosis always plays a vital role and a phlebotomist takes the major part in the diagnosis process.

Phlebotomist acts as a bridge between the doctor, nurse, and the patient. A proper diagnosis results in better treatment.
