Wash your hands

We use our hands for everything. Whether it’s typing on the computer during the day, flushing the toilet or opening doors, your hands collect germs extremely quickly and very easily. By washing your hands frequently, you’re eliminating the opportunity for germs to spread. Keeping your hands clean and trying to keep your hands away from your face will help you from getting sick this flu season.

Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough

When germs and bacteria spread, they spread quickly. Coughing and sneezing in public without covering your mouth can allow these germs to travel to others, possibly infecting them and putting them at risk of getting sick. By simply covering your mouth when you sneeze or cough, you’re eliminating the opportunity to spread germs and keeping others germ free as well.

Take your vitamins

A lot of us don’t get the vitamins we need through our diets, which is why it’s imperative to take your vitamins. Vitamins can provide the essential nutrients you need to fend off destructive germs that can break down your body and cause you to be sick. Taking your vitamins is a no brainer, especially now with the variety of vitamins that are available. Whether you prefer a gummy vitamin, chewable or one that you swallow whole, there’s every type you can think of to keep you healthy and safe from germs.

Rest

Getting the right amount of sleep is imperative for a healthy immune system. By going to bed at the same time every night, your body over time will begin to anticipate sleep, making it easier to fall asleep at that time. Adding some habits that help relax you at bedtime is helpful too, if you have trouble sleeping. Aim for 6-8 hours of rest every night, giving your body the opportunity to be fully capable of fighting off illnesses this flu season.

Eat right

Haven’t you ever heard the saying “you are what you eat”? Well it’s true, and here’s why. If you eat processed foods that don’t give you the nutrition that you need, you’re body won’t be capable of fighting off illness as well. This is because when you eat well and nourish your body, your immune system is stronger. For your best shot at avoiding sickness, make sure to eat at least three servings of vegetables each day and two servings of fresh fruit. Additionally, try to eat whole grains when possible and try to take in at least two servings of milk or yogurt each day.

Exercise

Working out is one of the greatest ways to strengthen and condition your body, mind and immunity. You should aim to work out at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week. While this might seem like a lot, by doing this it helps to increase blood and nutrient flow and decrease stress hormones that inhibit immunity. 30 minutes a day is worth it in the end, especially if it keeps you from getting sick.
