Why Real Honey Must be Part of your Anti-Cancer Strategy

in Overall Health by

Folk medicine and traditional medicine like Ayurveda, the 5,000 year old indigenous healing system form India, have empirically documented the plethora of health benefits that can be obtained from real honey. It has antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, and antibiotic properties. It can prevent or even cure cancer. Here are a few reasons why real, organic, raw honey should be considered to be a potent anti-cancer medicine.

A recent study published in the journal Molecules, “Effects of Honey and Its Mechanisms of Action on the Development and Progression of Cancer” stated:

“Honey is highly cytotoxic against tumor or cancer cells while it is non-cytotoxic to normal cells. The data indicate that honey can inhibit carcinogenesis by modulating the molecular processes of initiation, promotion, and progression stages. Thus, it may serve as a potential and promising anticancer agent which warrants further experimental and clinical studies.” See the study abstract here.

According to an article from GreenMedInfo, “Honey: A Powerful Anti-Cancer Agent”- The Molecules study found that “… flavonoids and phenolic acids [act] as the primary compounds in honey’s anti-cancer properties.”

Estrogen Sensitive Cancers and Honey

Since many of honey’s flavonoids act as phytoestrogens, they can effectively bind to estrogen receptors thereby blocking so-called ‘bad’ estrogens like xenoestrogens. Xenoestrogens are from man made chemicals in our environment, including many personal care products, pharmaceuticals, water, and food containers that mimic the estrogen found in our bodies and act as endocrine disruptors even at minute doses.

Another type of estrogen dominance is associated with menopause and is actually caused by a drop in progesterone production, which naturally balances estrogen by interfering with estrogen production.

Bottom line: Honey’s flavonoids block the uptake of problematic estrogens by estrogen sensitive cells, which if not checked can lead to estrogen receptor-positive cancers including breast, cervical, uterine, and prostate cancer.

Honey’s anticancer benefits do not stop with estrogen sensitive cancers. It has proven effects against many cancers including liver, colorectal, prostate, bladder, endometrial, skin, cervical, lung, mouth, bone, and renal cell carcinoma.

Moreover, some honeys are able to specifically target cancer cells by a process known as “selective cytotoxicity”, where only cancer cells are destroyed, but healthy cells are left unharmed.

Additional Mechanisms Behind Honey’s Anti-Cancer Properties

1) Cell Cycle Arrest: Cancer cell replication is stopped
2) Activation of the Mitochondrial Pathway: Flavonoids can activate mitochondrial pathways and remove proteins like cytochrome C which are considered potential cytotoxic (cell killing) agents.
3) Induction of Mitochondrial Outer Membrane Permeabilization (MOMP): Honey causes the MOMP or a “leakage of intermembrane space proteins into the cytosol” which leads to the death of carcinogenic cells.
4) Induction of Programmed Cell Death (Apoptosis): Activates “cell death programming” to protects against cancer.
5) Modulation of Oxidative Stress: Honey has the ability to act as an antioxidant thereby minimizing oxidative stress, which has been linked to cancer.
6) Amelioration of Inflammation: Honey acts as an anti-Inflammatory. Chronic inflammation has been linked to cancer.
7) Modulation of Insulin Signaling: Cancer has been liked to insulin resistance. Honey can reduce insulin resistance thus reducing cancer risk.
8) Inhibition of Angiogenesis: Honey can stop tumors from creating their own blood supply by inhibiting angiogenesis (the production of a new blood supply vessels.

Honey Cures Cancer Too

The Cancer Tutor, considered the most comprehensive alternative cancer healing protocol website lists honey as a dirt cheap protocol for stage IV cancers!

Ante Kresich was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and told by his doctors to get his affairs in order. He refused to die and instead cured his cancer with a homemade concoction of honey and herbs.

Caveat Emptor: Fake Honey Abounds

According to testing done for Food Safety News, “More than three-fourths of the honey sold in U.S. grocery stores isn’t exactly what the bee’s produce.” According to test results, “Real honey must contain pollen and the test results show that pollen has been filtered out of most grocery store honey.”

If you’re looking for real healing be sure to buy real honey. Here’s a list of fake grocery store honeys.
