Five Herbs to Cleanse Your Digestive System and Stimulate Weight Loss

in Overall Health by

These five herbs are all packed with digestive enzymes to stimulate the digestive tract and aid in the process of breaking down acidic toxins including lard from meat, mucous from dairy, gluten from wheat, synthetic sugars and toxic chemicals. In general, the herbs help the body cleanse itself by excreting toxic waste through the gastro-intestinal tract, perspiring through the skin (i.e. fever and skin rashes), vomiting acidic toxins, and excreting mucous in the chest and nasal passages. On that note, all of these herbs are also excellent weight loss supplements as well.

  1. Papaya Leaf – This may be the single most potent herb to cleanse the gastro-intestinal tract. The digestive enzymes are excellent to accelerate bowel movements. The raw leaf extract is known to cleanse the life threatening Dengue Fever, which lives in the tropics.
  2. Soursop Leaf – This may be the single best herb in our garden to cleanse the colon, which is the main chamber of our digestive tract. Rich in protein, calcium, fat, vitamins A & B; Soursop Leaf inhibits the growth of fungus, virus, bacteria, parasites and tumor development.
  3. Noni Leaf – This extraordinary circulatory herb that grows throughout Polynesia, thins and cleanses the blood; as well as the liver, gall bladder, pancreas, stomach, and intestines. Noni Leaf also inhibits the growth of fungus, virus, bacteria, and parasites; and prohibits the development of tumors.
  4. Ginger – The renowned, slightly warming, digestive herb is a powerful cleansing herb which breaks up toxins and supports bowel movements. Ginger contains two constituents, gingerol and shogaol, which are thought to help stimulate the body’s flow of digestive juices such as saliva, gastric secretions and bile, according to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center online.
  5. Turmeric – The cooler herb of the ginger family, known for its immune boosting properties, this anti-inflammatory herb is the best all-around cleanse and tonic for the liver and gall bladder. Turmeric’s main ingredient, curcumin, has been shown to have a wide array of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

In general, these herbs nourish the blood to help circulate essential vitamins and minerals throughout the body. As the herbs alkalize the digestive tract, acidic toxins are expelled from the body and replaced by hydrated, alkaline cells. However, I don’t really believe in “cleansing”. I choose instead to maintain a clean mind, body and soul. Cleansing just feels out of balance, feeding the highs and lows of a volatile lifestyle. It reminds me of telling my child to apologize after doing something wrong; as if such an apology makes everything right, it doesn’t. Well the same lesson goes for your body. Treat your body like a temple all of the time, not just some of the time. Truly the best way to cleanse the digestive tract is to keep a clean diet, and cleanse the body with the foods, water and herbs that you eat and drink daily.
