Perhaps toddlers have got it right. Maybe we should all eat more dirt.
Seriously though, there have been a number of successful applications to products whose base component is effectively earth material, and many of these products work well internally. Whether it is diatomaceous earth (DE), bentonite clay, or even shilajit, these “dirt based” products have been proven to create “miracles” inside the body.
So before you decide to diss diatomaceous earth or any other dirt, check out these health benefits and practical applications.
Using diatomaceous earth (DE) to detox heavy metals and parasites
DE is a naturally occurring rock made from skeletons of fossilized diatoms, a type of hard shelled algae. It is very important to note that there are two types of DE, one that is used for applications like pool filtration (not safe for human consumption) and the other that is used for internal consumption (food grade, which is chemical free and non-toxic).
One of the popular uses of DE is to chelate or bind to heavy metals like mercury and aluminum to help carry them out of the body through normal elimination processes. This is possible due to a negatively charged DE magnetically attracting the positively charged heavy metals, and escorting them out of the body effectively.
DE is also very effective at removing parasites (pinworms, tapeworms, etc), bacteria, and viruses, as well as residue from organophosphate pesticides and drugs. It works very well with parasites by cutting through their exoskeleton, absorbing their body fluids, and causing them to die.
Using diatomaceous earth (DE) for healthy skin, hair, nails, tissues, and organs
DE has an abundance of a relatively unknown nutrient, silica, which provides benefits to a number of tissues and organs in the body. It is required by tendons, cartilage, blood vessels, and bones. It also supports every vital organ including the heart, liver, and lungs.
Studies have also shown DE has the ability to lower cholesterol by removing plaque and is also nourishing to the arteries and veins. Blood pressure regulation is also a benefit.
Since DE has an amazing 80-90% silica content, it it also very useful for the health of the skin, teeth, hair, and nails. This can be achieved by taking it internally, but topical applications can work as well. For example, the gentle abrasiveness of DE make it a great skin exfoliator, which opens up the pores and allows for easier detoxification.
To take internally, start with a half teaspoon and work up to a tablespoon. Mix thoroughly in 8 ounces of water. Drink right away and follow up with another 8 ounces of water. Take on an empty stomach and drink water throughout the day to avoid constipation.
If you feel abdominal discomfort or other symptoms, it could very well be signs of detoxification. Others may not be able to handle it well due to the abrasive effect it can have on the digestive system.
Along with the aforementioned benefits, DE is also a very effective non-toxic pesticide and insecticide for your lawn, garden, pets, and home. To learn more about how it can be used in these ways, read Diatomaceous Earth – Heal Your Body and Clean Your Home.
