Six Cancer Fighting Beverages Proven to Kill Tumors

in Overall Health by

Research has shown that inactivity and unhealthy diet can increase a person’s risk of cancer.  We may not be able to change genetics but we can change our lifestyle.  Factors such as getting to and remaining at a healthy weight, regular physical activity, and focusing on a plant-based diet can go a long way to protecting the body from heart disease, diabetes and even cancer. Lifestyle factors such as healthy weight, regular physical activity and a plant-based diet can protect the body from heart disease, diabetes and cancer!

What we eat and drink can impact our health longer term.  Many beverages contain phytochemical that have anti tumor, antiangiogenic and antioxidant properties.  A 2014 study determined that the following phytochemicals from the attached beverages are important for our health. (2)

Six beverages shown to have a powerful impact against cancer!

  1. Epigallocatechin (green tea):  Dry green tea leaves are made up of 40 percent polyphenols such as EGCG.  A study from Purdue University found that EGCG prevented cancer cells from growing or enlarging after division and eventually lead to apoptosis. (3)
  2. Triterpenoids (citrus juices):  Vitamin C found in citrus juices or lemon juice is an alternative cancer cure.  Further research also points to lemon peels due to their ability to destroy malignant cells in breast cancer, colon cancer, and lung cancer.  (4)
  3. Resveratrol (red wine):  Resveratrol is a polyphenol derived from grapes, berries, peanuts and other plants.  It has been found to affect all three stages of carcinogenesis by controlling cell division, growth, apoptosis, inflammation, angiogenesis and metastasis. (5)
  4. Xanthohumol (beer):  Research from the German Cancer Research Centre found that xanthohumol found in beer blocks the excessive action of testosterone and estrogen and helps prevent the release of protein, PSA, that encourages the spread of prostate cancer.  (6)
  5. Procyanidin (chocolate):  Chocolate contains minerals, antioxidants and flavonols.  Studies show that dark chocolate can lower the risk of lung, prostate, and skin cancer.  (7)
  6. Caffeine (coffee):  A 2015 study found that people with stage 3 colon cancer who drank four or more cups of coffee per day had a 52 percent lower change of recurrence or death associated with cancer.  (8)

These beverages should be consumed in moderation and as part of a healthy diet.  If you are in the process of transitioning to a plant-based diet, consider your beverages carefully.  Instead of picking up a soda or energy drink, consider choices from the above list.
