Top Tips for Sculpting Your Summer Body this Winter

With winter fast approaching, you might be considering hitting the gym now to give yourself plenty of time to get in shape for next summer. Whether you have a long vacation of a lifetime planned or are looking forward to plenty of summer events with your nearest and dearest, summer bodies are made in the winter! Even if you’re already in good shape and feel that there’s little work to be done to help you get to where you want to be, dedicating some time and effort to your personal fitness and health throughout the winter will help you maintain your weight and figure and make it easier to prevent slipping back into unhealthy habits, particularly over the holiday season! Tip #1. Add Some Cardio:

Going for a run might not be the first thing on your mind when temperatures are dropping outside, but it’s during the winter months that you have a great opportunity to burn some extra fat. Winter walks can be an excellent way of doing this – there’s no need to go too fast against the cold air, and you can soak up the winter landscapes – maybe even get a dog so that they can become your new walking buddy! Or, you can hit the cardio section in the gym and use treadmills, exercise bikes, and rowing machines from the comfort of indoors. Alternatively, swimming in an indoor pool makes for an excellent choice of cardiovascular exercise all year around.

Bear in mind that the morning is when your cortisol levels are at their highest, which can break down muscle tissue and encourage the storage of fat tissues, along with heightening your stress levels. Tip #4. Get More Sleep:

With the nights getting longer and darker, winter is the perfect time of year to improve your sleeping pattern, since the earlier sunset will have an effect on your body’s natural circadian rhythm. If you’re not getting enough sleep at night, then this can influence your health and fitness more than you realize, both mentally and physically. Sleep deprivation can lead to a number of issues with your diet, leaving you feeling more stressed and prone to comfort eating, along with slowing down your metabolism and making it more difficult for you to burn fat and gain muscle, even if you’re working out regularly throughout the week and eating a healthy and balanced diet. Winding down and going to bed earlier throughout the winter is a welcome change for most people who are ready for curling up under the sheets where it’s warm and cozy, so take advantage of this and get some more precious shut-eye. In addition, hitting the hay earlier means that you’re more likely to get up earlier, feeling refreshed and ready to hit the gym!
