Ever wonder how sheets and pillow cases get so grimy and yellow? No, you don’t want to know. Okay, we’ll tell you – it comes from our skin. Pores…sweat…oxidized oils.
Yes, that’s gross, but not really something we can help in our toxic world. Sweat happens. Dinginess on white fabric can also come from dirt, dust, hints of rust and in some cases – the water used to wash the whites. But you don’t have to look at that anymore.
Keep your sheets and pillow cases! And keep your budget. “Do It On A Dime” demonstrates how the miracle mixture virtually recreates the original white sheets. Works for all machines.
Have you guessed what the magical ingredients are yet?
You will need:
1/2 cup white distilled vinegar
1/4 cup Baking soda
Please note: we do not advocate using commercial fragrant detergents like Tide or fabric softener sheets. There is no reason to use the chemical soap with so many alternatives – or the fabric softener at all. The vinegar itself will soften your clothes. I always use this lavender oil on bedsheets both for scent and to help relax for bed. Don’t be afraid to try other essential oils, such as adding some vanilla oil to the lavender.
Instruction begins at the 2-minute mark.
Update: I tried this method using the exact amounts of white vinegar and baking soda, plus non-toxic soap. I used it on a load of white shirts and socks – brilliant! They turned out super white. Here is something I learned – it does not really whiten any white fabrics that were previously – accidentally – dyed by colored clothing getting mixed in – it was worth a try though!
