In the stressful world of the Twenty First century many of us realize we are not taking good enough care of ourselves. It is all too easy to work too hard, not get enough sleep and grab some fast food instead of eating a proper meal. Here are five easy tips to feel healthier, starting today!
Breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and sup like a Pauper goes the old saying. Breakfast IS the most important meal of the day, yet it is the one most commonly skipped by busy people. A healthy breakfast will release energy throughout the morning to keep brain function high and all faculties sharp and alert. Keep healthy foods in the fridge like yoghourt and fresh fruit. It doesn’t really take long to slice a banana into a bowl of muesli and add a splash of milk. Grabbing a chocolate bar and a takeaway coffee to eat in the car is not the same thing at all, it is just sugar and empty calories which will burn off leaving you craving more.
You don’t need a gym membership to exercise! Nor do you need special clothing, the fanciest trainers, or expensive weights and rowing machines. You just need to stretch. A few simple stretches every morning before you hop in the shower will loosen and limber you up, get the blood pumping and increase flexibility. It is a natural instinct to stretch, so give in to it. If you happen to be a smoker, do not start the day with a sneaky cigarette! If you have to smoke, invest in an e-cigarette kit and use that instead. if you resist the first one, you can resist all day!
Take A Walk
Walking is as effective as running for musculo-skeletal and heart and lung function and a brisk walk at the weekend will do a great deal of good. Walking doesn’t cost anything, you don’t need any special equipment and it is a way to oxygenize all your cells and get all the muscles working. You may associate being out of the house with having a cigarette. If this is the case an ultimate luxury e-cigarette kit is a necessary investment if you find you cannot give up. The better you feel about yourself, the more you will want to.
Switch off your mind and take ten minutes to think about nothing. It is remarkably recuperative, although it takes a while to master. If you have addictions, this can be a time when they come rushing in to assault you. Don’t sit there thinking, “when I’ve done my meditation I’ll treat myself to a nice glass of wine”. Turn off all your anxious thoughts and breathe deeply.
Don’t take your computer or smartphone to bed with you and spend hours texting, watching movies or answering email. Nights are for resting, not extensions of the working day! Try taking cammomile tea and a good book with you instead.
