If you or someone close to you has been suffering from rosacea, you know just how difficult it can be to deal with. Some people spend year after year and hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in search of the perfect treatment. In the meantime, scientists are desperately trying to find a cure for rosacea or at least pinpoint the exact cause(s) of it. As a sufferer of this condition, where does that leave you? The fact that top medical experts are scrambling to study and gain more information about it is enough to make you want to throw in the towel. Don’t be so hasty, though; let’s establish what we do know about this condition and the best means for treatment out there at this time.

The Facts About Rosacea

  • If you do not treat this condition, it will likely worsen.
  • We do not know the definitive cause(s) of rosacea, but we do know that sun exposure and stress, are contributing factors.
  • Redness is due to skin inflammation exacerbated by the aforementioned factors.
  • Using topical steroids to treat rosacea is not the best idea because they can cause further inflammation. Some forms of rosacea are actually induced by steroids, so stay away from these.
  • Combining medication with a moisturizer_ produces better results than using the medication alone, whether it is topical or oral.

Why Moisturizing is Important to the Healing Process

We know rosacea sufferers tend to have sensitive skin in general and the condition compromises the functioning of the skin barrier. When we treat the symptoms of rosacea, such as redness, bumps, and dilated blood vessels with medication, we have to make sure the skin is not damaged in the process in order to achieve the best results. We have discussed that sun exposure, along with other contributing factors, can make rosacea worse. This is why it is essential to deal with these factors while receiving treatment. Sun exposure can cause dry skin, and if you are being treated while at the same time being in direct contact with sunlight, you will see it stunts the progress of the treatment. We definitely don’t want that, and this is why coupling medication with a strong moisturizer can be extremely beneficial in the long run.

With this in mind, the best option seems to be a topical medication with moisturizing properties or one that includes a strong moisturizer. This will allow you to cut back on the cost of treatment by purchasing the two together. Just because you suffer from rosacea shouldn’t mean that you have to go bankrupt in the process of trying to heal yourself. It’s much easier to buy a medication that includes a prescription strength moisturizer than to buy each method of treatment separately.

Rosacea is a condition in which there are multiple contributing factors that can keep your treatment from being as effective as possible. While medication alone is incredibly helpful in producing positive results for rosacea sufferers, keeping the face from becoming dry, while strengthening the skin, increases its effectiveness. The combination of these two treatments might very well be the trick to moving past your condition. Imagine it: a future in which you feel beautiful in your own skin…this may not be so far off as you most likely had thought!
