5 Natural Remedies for Headaches

Published

on

Thousands of people suffer from headaches every day. They can be SUCH a pain, and can even prevent you from living your healthy life. If you get headaches often but don’t like to take prescription medications, there are many natural remedies you can try at home to get some relief.

Contrary to popular belief, natural remedies can be beneficial for almost anyone. Whether you have them now and again or you get them consistently, some of these natural remedies may be perfect for you to try. Besides, natural resources don’t have as many side effects as a prescription drug would, and they cost less as well! Try these out next time you feel some pressure in your temple.

*Grapes *

As strange as it sounds, grapes are a highly recommended natural remedy for headaches. They are inexpensive and tasty. How about a bunch of grapes a day to keep the doctor away? If you are not the biggest fan of raisins, pure grape juice is just as helpful, as long as its 100 percent grape juice (100 percent grape juice won’t have the high level of sugar added to them).

*Water*

Since dehydration is the cause of so many headaches, a pure glass of water may be the cure. Water will reduce the headaches and help them go away in time. Being well hydrated with mostly water can resolve a lot of headache problems. Pure water will work best, but if you don’t like the taste of plain water, you can add a teaspoon of honey. Honey has also been known to relieve headaches.

*Cold Compress*

Often, applying a cold compress to the head when you feel trouble coming on will help. A makeshift ice pack at home can be a bag of frozen vegetables. They stay nice and cold and will almost mold to the form of your head. Wrapping them in a light towel will keep the skin from being damaged.

*Niacin*

Niacin has been known to treat headaches of all kinds. Niacin is in foods such as sunflower seeds, nuts, spinach, asparagus, and tomatoes. Niacin is also sold over the counter in a supplemental form, so this would be one of the easiest ways to try a natural remedy.

*Cayenne Pepper*

The ingredient in hot peppers known as Cayenne has been known to do wonders for relieving headache pain. Because of this, people have been using chili peppers in everything from salads to milkshakes. Some creams contain this magical ingredient too, and you can find them at any health food store. Some people have sniffed a small bit of cayenne directly into the nostrils for relief, and though I wouldn’t recommend this for the weak of heart, it’s been known to yield results.

Remember, what you eat is always important to think about – but this is especially true if you suffer from headaches. Your body needs plenty of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. So, make sure you are eating a balanced diet full of fruits, grains, vegetables, and dairy. If you’re still not seeing results, then any of these natural remedies should be tested and tried. If none work, you may want to contact your physician, because it might be something much more severe.
