Spring is in the air! The weather begins to change, the flowers begin to bloom, and the skies become clearer and brighter. To make sure you make the most out of the lighter days, here are six tips on staying healthy in the new season.
1. Eat fruits and veggies.
A variety of fruits and vegetables grow during spring. Trying foods that are in season is a great way to promote health and wellness. Instead of heading to your usual supermarket, visit your local market and get some beets, asparagus, peas, apricots, kiwis, and cherries. While you’re at it, grab a handful of lemons and make the sweetest lemonades!
2. Get moving!
As spring is a time of renewal and of fresh starts, why not begin an exercise program? You can start awakening your body by stretching and Yoga. This is great for maintaining flexibility and youthfulness. You can then tone up with aerobic activity and some weights. If you have already started a program, don’t let the arrival of the new season stop you! Add an exciting twist and try a new sport or activity like dancing or aerial trapeze.
3. Take care of your skin.
Just because it isn’t summer yet doesn’t mean you should not protect your skin just as much. If you’re planning to go on picnics, or going out of town with the family, it is very important to moisturize. Aside from sunscreen, make sure you add a moisturizer with SPF 15 or higher. You can also keep your skin hydrated by drinking water. Install drinking water systems at home for your safety and convenience.
4. Maintain clean surroundings.
If you haven’t started with spring cleaning yet, well, now’s the time! After the cold winter months, your home will most likely be home to disease-producing microorganisms as well. As soon as possible, bring out the cleaning equipment and rid your home of dust, mold, and other microbes. Just be sure to stay safe when spring cleaning.
5. Wash hands.
Washing your hands is a healthy habit to prevent illness and stay away from allergens. Before and after eating, wash your hands with water and soap and scrub away for at least 15 seconds. If you have water softener systems at home, the better. Soft, warm water is the best to use to ensure clean hands.
6. Go outdoors.
It’s spring! Enjoy the outdoors. Take time to go outside and feel the spring winds. Run, walk and play in a park or your backyard. Breathe in and out and make your mind relax in the process. And of course, don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers.
