Due to concerns of liability, it is important that technicians have the proper laser hair removal training before they are able to work in the field.

The requirements for laser hair removal training will depend on the location of where the job is. In many locations, only medical professionals such as nurses, physician’s assistants and physicians are able to perform laser hair removal. Before getting laser hair removal training to become a technician, it is vital that you understand the legalities of your local area.

If your location allows for technicians to perform laser hair removal treatments, you will then need to find a list of the province or state approved laser hair removal training programs. There are two organizations you can turn to for more information about the career field, the training and the certification that is involved: The National Council on Laser Certification and the International Aesthetic & Laser Association.

It is important to understand that some training schools will only prepare you for the written examination for your certification credentials. In some cases, you may still need to find hands on training after completing the written portion of the training. The good news is that many locations offer free hands on training to candidates who have completed the written or classroom part of the training. You will need to complete a minimum of 20 treatments that you are required to perform under the direct supervision of a senior. You will also be required to complete case reports for the treatments that you provided.

In order to pass the certification examinations, you will need to complete and pass a written exam that has 100 questions. You will also have to demonstrate that you have the ability to use the laser equipment in a safe manner. The credential is called the Certified Laser Hair Removal Professional and it is given by the Society for Clinical and Medical Hair Removal.

Laser hair technicians are required to be licensed or certified, or both. Some locations require that technicians carry licensing and certification at the national level, while other locations may only require the territory or state level. This does depend on the regulations in the area where you wish to provide laser hair removal treatment.
