The Master Cleanse Diet is a diet that was developed in 1940 by Stanley Burroughs. Burroughs was what we now call an alternate health practitioner as his methods and theories were different to the mainstream views at the time. He first presented the Master Cleanse Diet in a book named The Master Cleanser. However, this book was a pretty tough read and it was quite difficult for readers to fully understand what he was trying to say. As a result a fan of the diet by the name of Peter Glickman published an easier to understand version of the book. It was from this book that the diet became known by a number of different names such as “The Lemonade Diet” and the “Cayenne Pepper Diet”. The diet has also quite recently been dubbed “The Beyonce Diet” due to the celebrities use of the diet for her role in the movie Dreamgirls.
